Past the germination and seedling stage. Into Veg growth and LST stage. Time to train the soft new growth to be spread apart as much as possible.
Using low-cost white fiberglass backed ceiling tiles to block the damp Hydrotron from light to prevent algae growth.
Just showing details. No light should encourage roots to use entire growth media.
Usually not a preferred practice to have watering rings in direct contact with growth media. But inert plastic ring, inert Hydrotron, covered, no light for algae growth, filtered water, proper Ph so no precipitation out of salts. Will just monitor.
Training growth, future Cola's separated as much as possible. Once growth is past the lower wire ring of the tomato cage, training will be mostly done. The wire rings will provide continued separation and the baby Cola’s are allowed to grow vertically.

Impressions about plant

Day 32 since planting. Temperature, Humidity, ms/cm, ph, & light same as week 5. While this is my first Hydro grown, I have 4 successful soil based grows under my belt. It’s clear at this point in the grow cycle, that a Hydro growth is substantially “faster”. Not saying “better”. But the typical growth boost with Hydro, normally quoted at 25% faster than soil, I’m clearly seeing.

Since the first “manifolding” to create two main branches last week. Growth has been sufficient to do the second and final manifold trim. Result that will now produce 8 strong independent large bud producing Cola’s per plant. (Min Larf.) Started LST, to maximize distance between Cola’s while new grown still flexible using soft ties & wire tomato cages.

Simple, low cost, white fiberglass backed drop in ceiling tiles were cut to cover the Hydrotron to prevent algae growth. They make great light reflectors as well. Will monitor the drip rings, with a quick peak from time to time, which are now in direct contact with the Hydrotron for any issues. But without light and the water well filtered, before entering the rings, minimum evaporation potential with the rings covered,( no salts precipitating out of solution) have a good feeling that there will be no issues with the water rings clogging. We will see..

Can’t stress enough the importance of an integrated grow room environment controller. There are lots of them out there. Not pushing the Hydro-X by any measures. But very happy with its programmability. And ability to be controlled/alarm notifications via phone app.

Last note. High humidity is so critical in early stages of growth. Using an Emerson HD14060 whole house humidifier. Designed for 4K sq/ft house. Holds 10 gallons of water and it works pretty hard to keep the grow room HR @ 65%. Refilled every 3 days.

Really have enjoyed this grow so far. Time lapse photography of grow continues as well.
